A zoo that is not just for kids.
Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, formerly the Living Desert Museum, is a botanical garden and a zoo all in one. It’s located at the top of the hill in Palm Desert, about 20 minutes south of Palm Springs in Riverside County.
If you are coming from Los Angeles take the 10 freeway, exit at Palm Springs, drive through town, and make a right on Pines to Palm Highway (#74).
If your near Lake Elsinore you can take the 74 highway over the mountains and the zoo is just a few minutes off the highway.
Most people that attend the zoo are from out of town, and are in town for the weekend or longer vacation.
There are so many wonderful places to stay in Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, or Palm Springs. The areas offers some of the most luxurious hotels, moderately priced hotels and motels, themed motels, and of course there are many homes for rent anytime of the year.
Often people with large families or groups chose to travel by Party Bus to and from the various events of the day. This way they can pack the bus with all their needs for the day and not have to rent multiple cars.
